This fall, my wife and I are planning to do the huge ten day antique show in Warrenton, Texas  (about half way between Auston and Huston).  Since this will in all likelyhood be a once in a lifetime 3,900 plus mile round trip, does anyone have any suggestions about what to see along the way.   Our route down will take us past Lexington, KY,  Nashville, Memphis, Little Rock and Dallas.  The only place interesting that I can think of remotely along the route is Branston, Mo., and even that will require quite a side trip.   Any suggestions including campgrounds to visit/avoid, will be greatly appreciated.

Paul, I am certain you will get suggestions from folks in the part of the country, but you can do some looking yourself.  If you belong to AAA, or know someone who does, get one of their tour books.  Great for planning sightseeing tours (we don't belong--got some from my mom years ago).  The major campground guides, i.e., Trailer Life, often have great suggestions.  Google the areas you will be going to and look through websites of the town or county nearby.  Contact state tourism departments.  Ideas from these sources will then let you ask questions about specific sites to visit.  What state is your starting point--that will help--you don't have it with your screen name.  Tell me that and I will modify your subject for better response!

Linda:

Thanks for the suggestion.  We live in the Adirondack Mtns. of uptate N.Y.

By the way, we will be doing a show at Madison/Bouckville, on Route 20 about half way between  Utica and Syracuse, NY this weekend.  We will be set up on the East Expo Field.  If anyone happens to be down that way, stop by and I'll be glad to show off our DF 28KS.

We just arrived home this weekend after covering some of the territory you plan to travel through.  Some thoughts...that take a scenic route (vs the dull I-40 across TN) while in KY check out the Mammoth Cave NP, tour the Corvette plant and museum in Bowling Green, KY, see the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY, stay at the Fort Massac State Park in Metropolis, IL (town claims to be home of Superman), tour the replica colonial fort there, take US-60 (mostly four lane nowadays) over to Springfield, MO and visit BassPro Shop Outdoor World with the new adjacent Wonders of Wildlife Museum and Aquarium, then take US-65 down to Branson, then on to Little Rock, AR.  Check out Hot Springs, AR while in that state, and on to Texas, etc, etc.  Depending on your travel dates you might catch the fall colors in the Ozarks.  Good luck!  TF

Bass Pro Shop and the Corvette Museum both sound like great spots to visit!  We still own a Corvette convertible with a little over 21,000 miles on it that I purchased new in 1974.   Thanks!

Mongo,  Your Corvette must be one of the best around!  I bought a 1954 with about 8k miles on it in 1957 and then owned a new red C-5 from 1999 to 2005.  Really enjoyed both of them.   Be careful if you go on the plant tour, you might catch C-6 fever.  :D  TF

Mongo,

If you're going through Arkansas via Memphis, try Petit Jean state park in AK.  It's been years since I've been there, but the memories were good.  It has a nice hiking area down to Cedar Falls.

Here's the link...http://www.petitjeanstatepark.com/ .

See ya,

Olan

Other suggestions: Yes, Petit Jean State Park is still great as are all St. Parks in Ark. Probably the states best claim to fame!. In Texas, check out Livingston (Alabama- Coushatta Indian reservation great campground, full hook-ups, on the lake - interesting pine needle basket weaving), Missions in Goliad,  Victoria, etc. If you're by San Antonio, don't miss the River walk - the Alamo goes without saying. Good KOA. Also, look for camels along the Interstate. In Kerrville, there's a small shop that has an original camel corral - no shirt, no shoes, no camel rides! Fredrickburg is a German settlement. Great architecture, food, etc.

Oh, at Crossville, Tenn. a great R.V. park  is South of I-40. Think it was once a KOA. Ask for the place that advertises with dairy cows. Also in Tenn. The Hermitage - Nashville (Andy Jackson).
