Posting per Bigfoots request
A very interesting and worthwhile poll would ask the members about their slide experiences (mechanical, leaks, everything that can go wrong). Not interested in how easy they were to fix or how wonderful Northwood was in fixing them. Just the raw data on their reliability.
When Voting please also post about your slide vote and please include the year and model you are describing. Also give a detailed description on what the problem was and what was the fix so it can benefit others.

| Lippert Components relocated the slide motor on the main slide so it is in between the two gear packs. This equalizes the torque on the motor shafts. Also found insulation wrapped around drive shaft where it ran thru tank compartment. All is well now.

| Drive gear on slide track next to drive motor sheared roll pin. I replaced and repaired as it was in the drive way and I'm glade I wasn't on the road. I carry extras in the tool box now. Less than 1 year old and only used a few times. Also put jam nuts on adjustment stop bolts and reset.

Have had occasions when the main slide will stop when retracting. This started about a year ago and seems to follow no pattern. It may do it tomorrow, but may not again for several months.
If you let off the retraction button, then re-start it, everything seems to work fine.
No water leaks so far .

'05 29-5E Superslide would intermittently stop. Releasing the switch momentarily and then pressing it, the slide would function, until it stopped again. This happened both directions. The 20a fuse and relay were replaced by the factory with 30a rated components and has worked fine for the last two years.
It was also learned that stuff stored under the bed could become entangled with wiring that controlled the slide, and that the slide has sufficient power to disconnect crimped splices. Of course, this was operator error, no fault of the trailer.

Out of 2,955 members, one would think that there are more than 15 members with a slide-out model. I,m running this post back up to the top to give everybody one more chance to report their experiences on a VERY important observation that will greatly influence future buyers.
Please give the poll another chance and click in your vote.

| '06 31W. Roll pin on drive shaft broke while we were in a chain up area having lunch (summer time). Had to jam a punch into the shaft and collar and broke it off so the shaft would rotate. Got to our destination and replace punch with correct size roll pin. Now have an extra.

| No actual breakdown on our 2007 AF25P. It is pretty new but we have used it a lot so far in winter/spring conditions. Has operated fine so far but I will say I have been worried about it. It makes a terrible screaching noise going out or in. This is not from the rubber seal wipers but from the tracks themselves. After almost every trip we have gone under and washed the road grime out of the tracks and relubricated with a light lubricant (WD-40 or silicone spray) but the tracks still squeal. Took it to the dealer to see if there was anything wrong but it was a rainey day and when I got there the slide was as quiet as when it was new. This kind of confirms to me that it is a lubrication/friction issue where the tracks rub. A light rust inside the track and it sounds terrible. Dealer suggested another type of lube (called "Fluid Film" I believe) so I will try it when I find it and let everyone know how it works.

2001 27-5l - Our slide blew a fuse once. Started reading the manufacturer's book and they were quite specific on the type and size of fuse. Took me awhile to find it but once I replaced the fuse with the one spec'ed by the manufacturer we've had no problems. The original fuse installed by Northwood was NOT what the manufacturer had spec'ed. The spec'ed fuse is a very slow blow ceramic-type fuse.
We do use a dry spray lube on the rails - seems to work well.

2007 AF 29V. No problems, but it is mechanical. I think I'll add a couple of fuses and a roll pin to my parts kit. Cheap insurance. I, too, use a dry lube spray.

(Once again, welcome to all the "newer" members!)
No problem with the slide --- just the OPERATOR!! Second time out, toasted batteries, and I was not about to try and do the "hand crank thing". Removed both batt's, took 2 extra days and recharged them in town.
From your posts, I think I will look for some extra fuses!! Thanks for the tip!!
