SECOND SUMMARY

GOODYEAR MARATHON 24 3 12.5%

PLEASE SEND IN MORE INFORMATION SO THIS DATABASE WILL BECOME MORE MEANINGFUL. I WILL UPDATE AGAIN AFTER WE GET SOME MORE POSTS.
REMEMBER, WE ARE LOOKING FOR BLOW-OUTS AND STRUCTURAL FAILURES, NOT FLATS FROM NAILS.
So far, comparing the two most represented tires, SuperTrailer (8.3%) is leading Goodyear (14.3%). But how about those Uniroyals? Would the owners of the Uniroyals please check their tires for the country of origin and report to us.
The most surprising result is that the prevailing wisdom that all Chinese tires are junk is not being held up. Assuming from past posts that the brands Delta, Mission, Nanking, Tow Master, and Toyo are made in China, they add up to 24 tires and 3 failures. That's a % Failure rate of only 12.5%, better than Goodyear's. But aren't Goodyear's made in China too?

| Bigfoot, the Tow Masters I reported on were made in New Zealand and Canada. They may be made in China now, I don't know. Mine were purchased last year. They have 10-15,000 hard miles on them and are still in good shape.

4 Uniroyals that came on it. No hits, no runs, no errors, and no failures. About 7000 miles on the tires, with 5600 of it in the last month.

Would you please tell us where your Uniroyals were made, in what country?

DOT code is imprinted on the side of each tire, should say DOT followed by a numeric or alpha numeric code such as DOT 7D etc. If you go to this web site http://www.harriger.com/tire1.htm possibly you can find the info you are looking for. Last edited on Tue Oct 30th, 2007 16:09 by Firedawg

Of all the web sites, http://www.harriger.com/tires.htm is the best. Go to the sortable pages and look at all the locations for one brand, it is amazing.
On Edit:
There are three pages of sortable information. Go to each and double click the manufacturer column and then double click the country column. You will see that companies have plants everywhere. And, notice all the entries under China.
Brand names mean nothing anymore. Only the code on the tire will tell you where that tire was made.

Mission ST - 1 structural failure.
It happened 100 miles from home. Called Scott's Tires the next day and ordered 4 Michelin XPS Ribs (LT) . They showed me another tire that was about to come apart.
8,000 on the Michelins now, and no problems.

INTERESTING
Large 8, Small Zip
Using only the data from owners who have identified their units, and assuming that the Foxy One has a 25R (not in your signature, shame on you), the six smaller units (19 and 22 series) report NO blowouts and the eleven larger units report 8 blowouts.
Anybody want to take a swing at that one?

Hummm ? Interesting.
I know on the TDR forum the folks with larger trailers have more tire problems too. Could be trailers are outgrowing the avaliable tires.
I know mine is heavy, within 250# of the tire ratings (per tire) and I travel at 62-63 mph, close to the speed rating for ST tires. I would think the smaller trailers may have a little more margin.
On the other hand the smaller trailers have smaller diameter tires, so they make more revolutions per mile. Should make them run a little hotter. ??
As a point of interest, the XPS Ribs are LT tires designed for light truck/commercial trailer service. They are big, heavy tires and I have never heard of one failing when used on a TT or FW.
