:) Barely got my feet wet on the previous Yahoo site and up pops this gem.  Many thanks to Stuart and Adam for the great work in making this site a reality in such short order.

Stuart, I can't figure out how you knew our dog's name is Maxx -- I didn't mention it in any of the posts, and when I right-click on my avatar and go to properties, his name isn't in the location name.  Give it up, Stuart, are you a mind reader? :D

Actually anybody that can follow the link to your homepage (in your sig) can figure it out!

Merry Xmas,

Another question concerning the forums -- at the top right-hand side of the screen, it says "PM disabled."  I checked my preferences, and I do have private messages allowed.  Does this simply mean that the forum currently doesn't allow private messages?

elh, If you go back and edit your preferences to "enable private messages" that "disabled" sign will disappear.

Randy, my preference IS set to "enable private messages."  That's why I asked the question.

That would be correct Linda.  One of Stuart's thought about why the board went down yesterday had to do with the private message feature so I am sure he disabled them for now.

Adam:  When I first got your message about thenew site I made an immediate reply, posting, as you had done, about our trailer.  Can't find that now--where did it go?  This new site is really great!  Thanks to all who had a hand in creating it.;)

Adam, thanks for the reply.  That's what I thought, but figured I'd ask just to make sure it wasn't a problem on my end.

All,

I have disabled the Private Messaging feature of this message board for the time being.  I suspect that this feature may have been somehow related to the outage that we experienced over the weekend of 12/20/2003.

Until I can investigate the matter further I have elected to shut down the feature in order to help ensure system availability; given that there's always the open forum and/or e-mail for communications this really shouldn't be a big deal (even if it's never turned back on).

Regards,

Stuart

Stuart, I have another question about the forum. :?

When I click on a particular forum -- like the General Discussion forum -- I can tell which discussions have new posts since my last visit by the color of the icon to the left of the discussion.  However, on the main forum page, all the icons are always the same color, whether or not there have been new posts since my last visit.  Can something be done about this?

Thanks.

Linda,

I don't know but I'll check.  Please note that you've got the options to :
  • Use the 'Watch' feature for Topics so that you will automatically receive e-mails whenever new posts are added to those topics - these e-mails will include links directly to the new postings.
  • Use the 'Watch' feature for Forums (in this case the entire message board) so that you will automatically receive a daily e-mail digest containing the full text of all new postings.
Quite honestly the board is going to grow in both size and complexity (heck, there's a whole extra layer of organization at the Forum level that we aren't even using) so the 'watch' features are there to make it easier to find what's new!  Understood that the visual indications you mention would be helpful, though.

Regards,

Stuart
