Just returned from the La Grande rally.  In Nevada going down a hill the Pacbrake quit working.  Next morning it worked for about 2 hours.  Called Pacbrake this morning and was told the compressor got to hot and shut down.  It was installed as recommended by Pacbrake.  They suggested I move the compressor to the inside front bumper.  During my research on which exhaust brake to purchase "Temperature" is not mentioned in any literature on the PRXB.  Living in Arizona "IF" temp was a performance issue, I would have chosen another brand.  Thought I would just give a heads up if anyone is considering a PRXB.

I assume (yeah, I know) that the PRXB uses the standard compressor that is mounted on the engine just like all the other Pac brakes. I highly doubt it's heat. I don't have the PRXB, but do have a Pac Brake. I've had no problems. However, the previous owner had installed a early version up front on the fender, not on the engine where they are all now mounted. The noise it made was horrific. I fabbed a mount for it and put it where Pac Brake now mounts them. It is much quieter as in can't hear it with the engine running and is not effected by Eastern Washington heat. We were just in Arizona at 104 degrees and it worked fine.

My point is that I'd find out what is really wrong with it before moving it. I really doubt heat is the issue.

The Pacbrake I installed on my 2005 did the same thing, but T.J. Colter(sp?) said

the problem was with bad seals in the cylinder that activates the brake. Sent me

a new one o/nite and problem solved. The brake only worked for a short duration

and it would release on the long downgrades in Colorado, no issues since then

(Sept '08) and I could not be happier with the customer support.

Shovelhead dave,

Thanks for the info.  I would perfer to leave the compressor mounted on the engine.  Could you tell me wher the cylinder seal(s) is that you replaced.

Thanks

I've used my Pacbrake in Eastern Washington no problem. It's near Arizona temps. I've also used while loaded heavy in Moab, Ut in high heat situations. I did have the air solenoid start to leak after the warranty.

Had to buy a new one. The Ebrake still worked when the solenoid leaked. Leak only occured when Ebrake was off. Leaking solenoid caused compressor to run more often.

I did not replace any seals, Pacbrake sent a new cylinder, seems there was an

issue with a certain run of cylinders.
