I am in the process of installing a flat panel TV in the entertainment center. Doesn't seem to be any support anywhere near where a support for a plasma or LCD TV would normally be mounted, somewhere near the center of the alcove.
Would be pretty easy to put in that support at the factory and install a sticker or diagram marking the location of the support so that there would be no doubt where it was. I'm sure Northwood could do a better job with this support than I will.

I second your comments on how Northwood could make this task easier for us. Additionally Northwood seems to be several years behind in accommodating the transition to flat screen TV's when they continue to produce entertainment center/ TV cabinet designs for CRT TV's. I haven't seen a 2010 29-5T which I understand includes an ?? inch flat screen TV as standard equipment.
EDIT
I found a picture of an 2010 29-5T with (I believe) the standard TV installed. It appears to be a 26 inch. It does not have an modern integrated appearence, rather it is a dated entertainment center for a CRT TV with a small flat screen TV stuck in a large cavity. I did not include a link because I thought it unfair to identify the dealer but a google search will lead to a picture if it is of interest.
END OF EDIT
I'm in the process of installing a 32 inch Visio LCD (model SV320XVT) in the entertainment center of our 07 AF 29-5T. The Vizio is very thin and is larger in width than the outside width of the cabinet face frame. If the TV is held against the outside of the face frame there is clearance enough for the slide as it is extended and retracted My plan is to try and mount the TV on an Peerless articulated arm (model SA740P-S.) The base of the arm will be mounted to a 3/4" piece of plywood which will be mounted inside the right hand side of the entertainment center. I'll use an Kreg pocket hole jig to provide for screws to fasten this plywood to the back side of the face frame. There seems to be some reinforcement forward in the cavity to attach the plywood near its forward edge. I'm thinking about using springs or bungee cords inside the cabinet to hold the TV forward against the face frame.

| Actually Northwood has already done just that. Not sure if it was the 08 or 09 model year that Northwood started making the TV cabinets with an labeled anchor point for the flat panel. I noticed on last years model that the backing was solid wood.

I have an 09 20-5T and I can't find any backing anywhere in the backside of the area where one would normally mount a TV. I tried by the 'knock' method and by using a stud sensor and neither showed any evidence of substantial backing. If you can pinpoint the backed-up-area, that would be great.

| Well I figured I better find out something a little more factual so I called and it was the 09 year they were fazing this change into and so it depends what part of 09 your trailer was built if it had the change or not. If it has the blocking they put a sticker on the wall to let you know. It would of been the wall in your unit that is shared with the bathroom, so it sounds like you don't have the blocking and will have to install it yourself.

I too have been looking for an easy way to mount a flat panel TV in the large cubby hole provided in our 03 model.
I have ordered a MOR/ryde Slide-out & swivel flat screen TV mount from PPL motorhomes. http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/tv-antennas/flat-screen-tv-mount.htm
It should arrive tomorrow, Thursday 2/4/10. My plan is to remove the flimsy base in the cubby hole (secured with staples) & replace with 1/2 inch board. I hope to have that project completed by the weekend. Will post results later.

Jim,
Thank you for the info on the Mor/ryde mount. Do you think this would work for my installation where the TV has to be outside the cubby hole because it is wider than the cabinet? I was impressed with what I read about the mount re positive locking.

I can only speculate. Our 32" Sharp is slightly larger than the frame. I am assuming (you know what means) that I can retract it into the cubbyhole with it slightly tilted, then lock it into position. I won't know if this works until I can install it.

Jim,
Thank you, We are departing on a five week trip in 2 1/2 weeks and I need to get the TV mounted before we leave. I should be ordering the Mor/ryde unit today! It sounds like you are facing similar issues to those I'll face. I don't really care if the TV stores in the cubby or not. My TV is only two inches thick so I can leave it outside the cubby but butted against the cabinet face frame for travel. (It will clear the slide.)
Edit
Jim,
I ordered the Mor/ryde bracket this morning and hope you will post your experience with it, I should be just a couple of days behind you doing the install.

Project completed. Not without frustration & less optimal than I had anticipated. I wrongly made an assumption that the tilted TV could be retracted into the cubbyhole. It now resides permanently outside the frame but appears to be well supported and clear of the slideout.
I removed the flimsy lightweight bottom and replaced with a 3/4 inch thick painted board that I secured with LiquidNails.
After many, many careful measurements I installed the mount to the board with 3/4 inch lag bolts provided. Then attached the TV to the mount. I was off by 1/2 inch and the TV could not be secured into the retracted, locked position. Remounted base and attached TV. Stable, secure but cannot extend pas the slideout due to inadequate room. Could not tilt & retract into cubbyhole either. The TV is now permanently mounted in the secure, locked and retracted position.
In retropect I should have made my position measurements with the TV backing plate attached to the mount.
I will try posting some pics.

Jim,
Thank for posting your experience and providing the pictures. My mount arrives Tuesday. The mount appears to be very stout. I like the appearance on your installation, nice job!
I like your idea of mounting the TV backing plate to help in locating the base. When you extend the mount (super slide extended) do you have adequate space to install the various cables on the back of the TV?
A friend suggested I save the current flimsy bottom and put it on top of the new 3/4" plywood so I only have to apply a finish to visible edge of the plywood.
Looking forward to getting this job completed.

I had no troubles attaching the various cables, plenty of room.
I also thought about attaching the veneer to the top of the shelf, but opted instead for a simple brown paint job. It's good enough for me.
I am not going to change it now, but after the install it occurred to me that if I had installed the mount off center (to the right) I might have been able to tilt & extend past the slideout.

PS Adam (or forum monitor) should this topic not be moved to the modifications area?

Jim,
I finished my installation yesterday. After lots of trial & error and re-clamping I found the angle to locate the base so the TV clears the trailer slide in the out position and the TV is flush against the face frame in the in position. Thanks so much for planting the seed to mount the base at an angle.
The Mor/ryde TV mount is great!!! I thought I was unpacking a trailer hitch , all 17# worth. It is a very stout unit.

Glad to hear it. Would you post a picture, or 2, and the measurements you used.
Thanks in advance.

Jim,
I did some measuring today. I skewed the base 15 degrees from being parallel to the trailer's centerline. The aft (with respect to the trailer), inboard bolt through the base is 11 5/8 inches outboard from the RH inside wall of the cabinet. This same bolt is 2 inches forward from the inside of the face frame. These measurements would vary depending on your TV.
The key to doing it was to have some deep clamps so I could clamp the base firmly down. I had the back plate attached to the TV and the horizontal arm attached to the back plate. So I was able to pick up the TV and insert the horizontal arm into its place on the vertical arm. Lots of trial and error. I ended up so that when locked forward the TV is against the cabinet face frame. The angle lets the TV move out to the out lock and by pivoting it as it extends it will just clear the trailer slide flange.
Sorry, no pictures yet. We leave Tuesday for six weeks and I'll work pictures upon our return.

Thanks for the description. I'll have to spend some time thinking about that.
Have a safe and happy trip.
