| Does anyone else have this problem and what did you do to fix it? When I have the window open at the head of the bed the end of the opening rod sticks out a couple of inches. It is just above my pillow. When I turn over I bump it and the window swings shut. My temporary fix is to go outside and open it far enough that the rod extends out of the slot and rests against the window. This works fine for sleeping but necessitates I go outside to open and close it.

Kissimmee Kouple,
I had similar problem on my 25S with exit window when walking near bed to get stuff out of cabinet. I solved it by making a small tapered wooden shim that wedges lock in open position, I then tied a small nylon leash to it and attached under one of the window frame screws. To use open window, insert wedge between top of lock bar and top of slot.
Hope this helps

| Guys. it could be worse! The 25R has a side window for an escape hatch. It open, of course, but has no screen, so it is useless as a means of ventilation. This is the only thing the factory has not been able to fix for us--apparently no screened windows the same size. We may see if we can have an internal screen made for it that would stick to frame with magnets. We would have to make something to prop the window open with. This is my main gripe on this model. Linda & Dave,
The escape window in my 25S came with a snap in screen from the factory, from what I remember from looking at trailers at Holiday World I looked at a Nash 25R and it had a screen on the escape window but most of the units they had in stock were from the Winchester Plant, maybe they use a different window supplier?

Some clarification pls, about The side "escape window" on the 25 R. I've never opened mine up. I was told at teh dealer that unlocking the 2 red levers would allow the window to "drop" out, thus making our escape path in case of a fire. Am I to understand that if I open the window up, it doesn't fall out ? How does it work to escape through ? is it solid attached at hte top and it hinges up and out ? I'd love to use it for a little ventilation now and again-bugs permitting. Thnx.

I have a 27-5L (year 2005) that I suspect is the same as yours since it fits the description of having two red levers (one at each side). When I pull up those levers the window will then swing up (hinged at the top). I made a prop from a short piece of wood to hold it open; worked fine but I started worrying about a gust of wind lifting the window enough for the prop to fall and the window then crashing closed and breaking. To prevent that I added a small screw in hook to each end of the prop. Also made a screen; there are a variety of ways to do that.

Can you describe how you made a screen for that escape window Nash5r?

My wife breaks the handle off a plastic fork or spoon and uses that as a wedge on top of the red control lever. Locks into place, yet still can be pushed out, with a little extra effort, if needed.
Cheap fix, and if she looses the wedge, there are always more readily available for modification.

Linda -- I cheated on the screen; when I traded my 23-5A (which had both a screen and a built-in prop on the bedroom escape window) the 27-5L had special order thermal panes and arrived without a screen. The dealer thought it was just missing and told me to keep the screen from my 23-5A. That screen turned out to be about 1/2 inch too small on 2 sides so I just fill the gap with 2 pieces of round pipe insulation which works perfectly. However, if I didn't have that I think I would just go to a hardware store and get a piece of fiberglass cloth screen (with no frame), attach some velcro with peel and stick glue to the window frame corners, stretch the screen over that and put the other half of the velcro on top to hold it. Warning -- haven't tried it but something close to that should work. Also, I camp mostly in Oregon and we use the A/C less than once per year and have a need for the bedroom window to be open only once or twice per year so it doesn't get used much.
For the prop, it is so fancy I'm thinking of mass producing it and seeing if I can become a vendor on the forum! Picture below.

| You must camp a lot in the foothills snuggled up to the Cascades if on the east side, or camp mainly on the west side! We have nearly roasted in eastern Oregon quite a few times!

You're right -- we don't get east of Hwy 97 very often.
