| I have a Nash 19b and am considering purchasing a generator. I am looking at a xtremediecast 3000 w with a 30 amp plug in. Would this be enough to power the air conditioning? And if I am charging my batteries would I hook up to the battery directly or plug in to the trailer power cord?

Haven't heard of this brand--went online to check it out--found it on EBay. Do they have dealers if you need service? It says it is an inverter generator, but......you often get what you pay for! A bad generator can damage the electronics in your trailer--we took out the refrigerator board the first year we had the trailer with a dirty power genny. Hopefully members here may have some experience, or you might do a search on a big general topic forum like Open Roads. I use the portal http://www.rv.net/forum to go there.

ExtremeDieCast is NOT a brand. It is an E-bay power seller that deals in die cast miniatures and any thing else that can sell. Altho I have bought & sold on E-bay, I didn't deal with functioning, mechanical equipment. When you buy a functioning machine, you need to understand the reliability factor.

It is enough to power the air conditioner, my Honda 2000w will, When charging batteries, use the convertor built in your trailer on 120v to charge. As others have noted, just remember, you are paying a "throwaway" price for it.

| hal2a: I feel compelled to offer MHO to a fellow Rv'er. As my signature indicates, I have a Honda EU-3000is and I love it! It cost me $1,700 shipped to my door. It runs my 13.5K A/C but only when the water heater and refrigerator is on gas. It will run all three but if the water heater fires up at the same time the A/C compressor kicks in, then the generator will overload. No biggie, just restart the Honda an it resets every time. I figured it out on a camping trip where I was running the A/C all the time. I should be paid royalties for the number of people I have steered in the direction of this EU-3000is. This thing runs on eco mode for over 20 hours! It is by far the quietest generator I have ever experienced. There is a built in network of Honda repair centers and it has a reached legendary status for reliability! No, I don't work for Honda. It is rated for 2800 watts. The one you are looking at is rated for 2500 watts. I don't know if it will have a hard time overcoming the "start-up" wattage needed to crank up the A/C. I guess you can return it if it does not. If you decide to take the plunge and buy the knock off brand, please keep us posted on how it works for you. Personally, I'll pay a bit more for the piece of mind I get from a proven product. On safety, I won't compromise. On a generator, it is just a matter of connivance and not so critical. IMHO Joe.

Looks like it's made in China....
http://zjxypower.manufacturer.globalsources.com/si/6008815440881/pdtl/Portable-power/1010337824/Inverter-Generator.htm
It say's "low noise" but compared to what? A noisy generator can be annoying to you and your neighbors...
As mentioned before, service might be an issue, and resale may also be a problem.

| I agree with Linda, the last thing you need is fried electronic boards in your RV. I would stick with Honda or yamaha for a generator. You get what you pay for and would not have an issue with service if needed no matter where you go.

| After reading the posts, I think I will stick with a Honda or Yamaha. Buying a Chinese generator would be taking a chance. Now it's going to be 1000W or 2000W. I'm also going to look at changing some of the lights to LED. I found a great web site at http://www.superbrightleds.com They have a lot of choices for retro fitting 12v bulbs. Thanks for all the info.

| If you plan on running the AC with any generator, you will need at least the 2500 watt ones from Honda or Yamaha. I have a 2000i Honda and it will run everything but the AC, too much load at start up. It may do if everything that is electrical is off and not used with the AC on, but it would still be tight.

| Yamaha EF2400 or bigger to run the AC. sometimes at high elevation, even the 2400i won't start the a/c.

We plan on adding a second Honda 2000 someday--needed it a few years back but have managed without it since--haven't left Oregon in the summer, except for a trip to the Puget Sound area of WA this summer for a rally--didn't need it there! I don't know what your availability in Canada is--we got ours at http://www.alamia.com for a very good price. Two smaller Honda's can be hooked together--avoids the heavy weight of the 3000. Yamaho makes a really good genny also.

For me, the Honda 3000 was out of the question. That beast is far too heavy to lift in to a truck bed, or even to carry around camp. I like to park the gen off in the trees as far away as the power cord will reach. If I'm running small power loads, then I drag it further in to the trees and use a 80' 12 AWG cord.
The Yamaha 2400 is "borderline" too heavy to put in a truck, but it can be done. My dad has one and I've lifted it in to his truck bed to see how easy it would be.

They offer this one now, quite a bit lighter at 78 lbs...
http://www.hondapowerequipment.com/products/modeldetail.aspx?page=modeldetail§ion=P2GG&modelname=EU3000i%20Handi&modelid=EU3000iHAN
I think we paid around $1900 for the two eu2000I generators with free shipping.
The nice thing about the 2000 is if you just want to keep the batteries charged and don't need the a/c or microwave you only take one...

I like my two Honda 2000's in parallel. Sufficient power and I can lift them if need be. I have them strapped to a piece of plywood behind the hitch.
Happy camping - Wes

Gary,
I purchased what passes for plywood today - 1/2" sheet.
Cut it for a snug fit behind the wheel wells and side to side - enough clearance to accommodate indoor-outdoor carpet all around. I ripped 1-1/2" strips and attached them (recessed 1/2") around the perimeter and in the middle to allow clearance for the tie-down straps. I then covered the covered the strips with carpet to protect the truck-bed against abrasion and for some sound dampening - the bed does tend to act as a "sounding board". I cut slots for the tie-down - one by the start handle and two on the "back-side" - hopefully pictures are indeed worth a thousand words!
I intend to cover the plywood with carpet to finish it off and additional sound dampening.
It seems most of my projects are prototypes or just works in progress!!
This is my first attempt at sharing pictures.
Thanks for your interest. Wes

Good Idea, they won't slide around and you have clearance. and You got the link to the photos. To share with a thumbnail, scroll down to "Post in a forum" on the right side and copy the entire line that starts with [URL= and you'll get this... click preview once to see your results, then Send to publish.

I like my Yamaha 2400. It's about 75 lbs and can easily be put in the bed of the truck and can run the air conditioner with no problems. I'd recommend it to anyone.
See ya,
